Frequently Asked Questions
|
| Why isn't it over and
back when a player steps over the mid court line, then back? |
| The key is to remember or look for
are 3 points. The dribblers 2 feet and the ball. "over and
back" does not begin until ALL 3 are in the frontcourt. This
means a player with the ball can step over the division line with one foot and bring it back into the backcourt as many times as they want. |
| What is 3 seconds? |
| The three second count begins when
the clock is running, the ball is in the front court and a offensive
player is in the lane. There is no count when a shot is taken. |
| What is a 5
second violation? |
| If a player,
with the ball dribbles or holds it for 5 seconds while someone is guarding
them it is a violation. So, A player who is
closely guarded (defined as within 6 feet) may hold the ball for 4.9
seconds, Dribble for 4.9 seconds then hold the ball again for 4.9 seconds.
the player then has to pass or shoot the ball. |
| How many seconds
does a team have to cross the mid court line? |
| 10
seconds, however, a player
has 5 seconds to release the ball on a throw in. Once the ball has been
in-bounded or rebounded, the team in control has 10 seconds to cross the division
line. |
| I saw a player
step on the line, on a throw in, Isn't that a violation? |
| The inside edge
of the line (court side) is out of bounds. It is not a violation unless
the in bounding player steps over the line. The player is still out of
bounds if they step on the line. |
