Basketball and Football (Head Linesman) Official Originally from the Chicago area, my job took us to New York and Florida, where I began my officiating career. We relocated to Indiana from Florida in 1998. I am a member of the Indiana High School Athletic Association with a certification of professional. I am the chairmen of basketball for the Fall Creek Officials Associations and a member of the Indiana Officials Association (I.O.A.) I have officiated varsity basketball for 13 years. I officiated the girls’ Regional at Mt. Vernon and Twin Lakes and Boys sectionals at Taylor and Pioneer. I am well versed in 3-person mechanics. The Lord
puts you in places to meet and interact with people, you have an effect on the
people you touch everyday or once in a lifetime. Officiating is more than rules written in black and white. An experienced official recognizes what is and isn't a foul. They understand the concept of advantage/disadvantage and it's effect on a play. An example is talking a player out of the lane while the ball is above the top of the key and they are not involved in the play, or in football talking to the lineman that held when the play went away from him. Since he had no effect on the play and neither team gained or lost an advantage play continues. However, you must talk to that lineman and tell him you saw the hold and if the play came his way he would cost his team.
